We went to Machida the other day for the shrine sale and a Thai lunch. It was fun... once we finally got there. I got a little lost driving there. Getting lost in a foreign country = not much fun. It was also unbearably HOT. But that is summer in the Kanagawa prefecture for you....
Here we are in front of the shrine. They have a sale on the first of every month. It's a lot of antique dealers but you can find obi and kimono and fans and china. It was a lot of fun except for the heat. I think I will go back again in September.

Hmmm... what do I want to buy? (Actually I am wiping sweat from my lip... it was so miserably hot.)
August is a big month for festivals and you will see a lot of men and women dressed in Yukata or summer kimono.
Manicured trees in the neighborhood.
People carry umbrellas all the time - even when it is sunny out to shade themselves from harmful rays. I don't think that would ever happen in America where we are obessed with being tan and dying of cancer.... er... looking good?

Cool! If I am there over the Christmas break and see you for January 1st, is that cool market open that day? That would be neat-o.
