3 months, 2 months!

I just think this picture is HILARIOUS! She looks like such a southern belle! "Well, I'm fine suga, how are you??"

So Lilia is three months old and it has been two months since we've seen daddy! She is growing and growing and growing. Some of her baby milestones are:
- holding her head up a lot better
- grasping things in her hands - she is starting the get the hang of holding a rattle
- holding her head up for tummy time
- cooing and stringing lots of sounds together. (She's been cooing for a month and 1/2 now!)
- She seems to see everything right now. She follows me with her eyes around the room and love to watch... the T.V. I know I know... I'm a bad mama. It's more from my mom. I will leave the room for a minute or go take a nap while my mom is watching her and I will come back and they will be watching cartoons together! Terrible!!! I guess she likes to watch the colors. Speaking of colors... Lilia HATES her car seat and riding the car. She never really liked it, but recently she screams nearly every time we put her in there. My mom had the fabulous idea of designing a backseat quilt/ picture with lots of colors and shapes to hook to the seat in front of Lilia. We tested it out today and not a PEEP was heard from the back seat!! She was MESMERIZED!! Poor girl was just bored back there staring at nothing. We will see how long this occupies her, but it sure worked today!

Now we just need Cliff to come home!!

Livin' La Vida... Japanese....

Today we went to the Bon Odori festival on base. Lilia rode in her stroller facing forward today! She did great!
What a cute little chunky monkey!
Cliff's squadron. Warlords represent!

There was a great turn-out this year. Last year the festival was rained out but this year the Japanese locals and Americans turned out in full force!

Our adorable friend Mari invited us over for lunch at her home off base the other day. We had so much fun! Mari set such a beautiful table for us in her tatami room. Whenever I visit her house I always kind of wish I had chosen to live off base....
We had soba, sushi, edamame, and......
Mochi with red bean paste!!! Ahhh!!! It's taken me a year to get up the guts to try the stuff. Turns out... it's actually pretty good.
Did I mention that my mom came back out to help me and to see her grandbaby again? Well... she did.
Me and adorable Mari. She really is adorable.
Now hopefully adorable Mari won't shoot me for posting apicture of her kitchen but I just couldn't resist... I really love her home! This is actually a very large kitchen for a Japanese home. Isn't that oven cute??
And here are some Lilia pictures for Cliff. My mom made this outfit and bonnet too.
Little Bo Peep!

What a sweet little... sweetie!

The Many Faces of Lilia!

I can go for five minutes on my tummy now without screaming! This is huge!!

See? It's not so bad!
I won't take a pacifier but I might be a blankie baby. I really like this little froggy guy...
He's really soft
And cuddly...
I think I might give him some licks!
Froggy licks!!! Yum!!!
Oh yeah, this is the stuff...
So good!!
I could do this all day!! (and sometimes do...)
It's a delicacy, really.
"pause"
Ahhh!!!!
And I'm back at it!
That was great.

Out and About in Japan

We went to Machida the other day for the shrine sale and a Thai lunch. It was fun... once we finally got there. I got a little lost driving there. Getting lost in a foreign country = not much fun. It was also unbearably HOT. But that is summer in the Kanagawa prefecture for you....
Here we are in front of the shrine. They have a sale on the first of every month. It's a lot of antique dealers but you can find obi and kimono and fans and china. It was a lot of fun except for the heat. I think I will go back again in September.
Another shrine shot.
Some vendors and shoppers

Hmmm... what do I want to buy? (Actually I am wiping sweat from my lip... it was so miserably hot.)
August is a big month for festivals and you will see a lot of men and women dressed in Yukata or summer kimono.
Manicured trees in the neighborhood.
People carry umbrellas all the time - even when it is sunny out to shade themselves from harmful rays. I don't think that would ever happen in America where we are obessed with being tan and dying of cancer.... er... looking good?
Scenery in Kaisei
Lilia's first train ride! We were on the way to Kaisei. She did great!... on the way there...

Umm.... 102nd post!!! ( I kind of missed the 100th....)

Below is a picture of Lilia discovering herself in the mirror. Above is actually from afterwards when she got bored and started sucking on my hand.

Adorable outfit from Jane
My sugar booger
I still love my baths!!
Ahh.... sink spa.....
Sleeping with my "Officer Bear"
He looks just like my daddy!
